7UP Shifted from Green to Clear PET Bottles

July 31, 2020

Suntory PepsiCo (Thailand), the producer and distributor of the most loved beverages under Suntory and PepsiCo in Thailand. Following their longstanding commitment to the performing beverage business with the focus on sustainable use of plastic. All 7Up bottles in Thailand have now shifted from the iconic green 7Up bottles to easier to recycle clear PET bottles.

PepsiCo envisions ‘a world where plastics need never become waste’. The sustainable plastics vision as rooted has three pillars: Reducing the amount of plastics used; Recycling the plastics; and Reinventing plastic packaging. Globally, the company has' already announced packaging goals to reduce 35% of virgin plastic content across its beverage portfolio by 2025. This equates to the elimination of 2.5 million metric tons of cumulative virgin plastic and makes 100% of its packaging recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable and increases its use of recycled content in plastics packaging to 25%.

One way to do this is by shifting 7Up green bottles to clear PET Bottles, thereby becoming easier to recycle and boosting recycling rates. Asia-Pacific represents 16% of 7Up Global Brand Volume and, Thailand is one of the first countries in Asia-Pacific to begin the transition.
